Down in Melbourne building up for the etchell worlds.

This weekend Royal Brighton hosted the pre world regatta with a very stacked fleet of 45 boats or so, all of the teams with a chance at the world title were mixing it up this weekend.

program 2 races Saturday and 2 races on Sunday going up 2 mile beats..

the worlds program is for 3 mile beats which will do our heads in

Saturday
R1 everyone was a little to excited and we led a big group over the line early which was recalled. the RC wasted no time to fly the black flag, we started badly and were taking sterns early to round the first mark in the 20's, we ground our way back to finish 10th.
R2 we were off the line well and sadly never got lucky and won and lost positions the whole way around between 3rd-10th finished 6th.

6th overall after today

Sunday with the forecast a little lighter we raced with all our new sails to give them a shake down and to test our boat speed

R3 again we were in a group that was wayway over early.. the 2nd black flag start saw us sitting in a great spot about 1/4 of the way down the line and we sheeted on to start conservatively according to our transits unfortunately they moved the pin end without us noticing and we were BFDed.. rounded the top mark in about 30th due to a massive left shift and caught back up to due to a massive right shift

finished 6th.. had great boat speed

R4 with no idea what the wind was doing we started mid line and extended pretty much to the lay line with a big group of boats.. Rounded the top in about 6th spot and carved up the rest of the race to finish 3rd by 2 boat lengths were unlucky not to win..

the ever relyable david clark won in a high scoring series...
carrying our BFD we finished 13th i think.. would have been 2nd without it.. meh

stupid long..

even after 3miles up the top marks are carnage..
then after the 3 miles downwind its still carnage at the bottom mark.. boats are so even.

the course is either two ups and two downs
or that with a windward finish..

some times two races a day..

going to be epic..

45knots on the race course today so im doing work this week so its not a total waste of time

Invitation race today:

In true from we again failed to trouble the scorers in another invitation race where we were forced to submition and retire early to try to save some face.

the truth was just like the brisbane nationals we 'tried' but got so fukin hammered and was so fukin deep the best call we made all day was to head home

we started well in the 2 general recalls then the start that counted got squeezed, tacked took sterns, hit a stern, did a turn, was left when the wind went right, and right when the wind went left

55th round the top
45th round the bottom
35th round the top
5th back to the harbor haha..

if you are super super bored and have no life..
or are stuck in a cyclone and wish youwere sailing you can live your life through the etchell fleet and replay races with this new yacht tracker stuff.

each boat has a GPS unit and you can play back each race every night..

Race1: in light shifty sea breeze we started well 10th to the top.. made a mistake with an early jibe and was 17th to the bottom.
good 2nd beat to be 10th to the top and finished 10th.

Race 2 started at 5:30pm, also in light shifty wind
had a bad start but found a great lane. some how we were 5th to the top after being very very deep.
5th to the bottom 5th to the top and 5th to the finish.

2nd over all.. one point behind John Bertrand.
good day out

good day again today..

played very safe just trying to score solid results in light shifty wind.

9th to the top
7th to the bottom
6th to the top
6th to the bottom
5th over the line..

2nd over all massive points gaps.

15 John Bertran
20 US
36 next boat
then a bunch around 45points

things are looking good we will sail conservative for another few races then take some risks later in the week when things get interesting

another great day at the office for us..

5th and 7th in two light shifty races.

we are sailing very conservative with heaps of boat speed.

Leading the score card by 17points. The drop comes in after tomorrow which closes things up again..

cheers skiffboy.

had another good day finishing 4th.

The drop came into play after heat 6th so we are now only 5 points behind john.

if we can keep it this close expect a matchrace going into the final race
