i can tell you it was fucking windy on the inside. top speed was 18knots off the start line, and we were loose. leading the fleet until we hit the piss and got the kite around the rudder letting 3 boats through(E5.9/colson 650/ RL24) the rl capsized and pretty much sunk. there was a Raider cat flipped over up in the mud further on. a blazer 23 sunk. and the record got broken by a few minute aparently. we hit the bottom as we couldn't fin a cardinal and had to motor offf and pull the keel up rendering us out of the race. awesome ride up until then. heard over the radio there was 44knots recorded. i would believe that.

i'm told that 48 knots was recorded at 3.30 pm at Cape Moreton - plenty of boats were around there at that time but i'm pretty sure the kites had been put away by then, plenty of them in pieces. I heard one boat tore all of their spinnakers and their main!

I was on "GO FOR it" What an awsome ride sitting on 11 -13 knots most of the time and a top speed of 15.6 with only a reefed main for power in an old RL24 is a buz. May have to sell the farr and get an RL

Saw lots of carnage too Found the colson "HFC" half way across the padock with a broken mast he would have had it won for sure without the breakage.

Results are up on QCYC web site now cant wait to see some pics

Plenty of breeze on the outside course mid 30's most of the way and up around 40+ when we came around Cape Moreton on Sweethart. Still had the chicken shute up and held it until just before the entrance to the NE channel. Good to see that most of the yachts finished as it was a busy but fun ride up the coast yesterday.

I was out on the offshore course...what a full on day!

The biggest gust we read on the instruments was 42knots..we got up to 20knts of boat speed at one stage..but most of the run up the coast was about 14-18knots surfing down waves up to 2 or 3 m.
The uphill to the finish was pretty average conditions too.... most boats had at least one reef (a few with 2!) and no. 4 headsails up.

I would have loved to head into qcyc after the race...shame about the low tide!

I think I saw every boat anround us blow at least one kite! Sailmakers will be busy this week especially if the boats are doing manly to mooloolaba!

absolute bullshit. he hit the bricks in near karragarra dropped his sails and motored up into the lee of karragarra and pulled his sails back up. he was out of the race as soon as he dropped sails and motored, same with the elliot 5.9 aswell. both of them and us hit the bottom and did exactly the same shit, you can't exonerate yourself from that, we retired, sat on the beach eating our lunch and watched the fleet catch up. if you can then prove me wrong, but i find it hard to believe that a 720 would suffice (which NONE of them did).

There has been a lot of talk about last weekends Surf to City race from the Gold Coast to Sandgate on Brisbane's north side.

From 102 entries only 57 managed to make it all the way to the finish line.

The wind gusts were in some instances reported to be over 45 knots (Cape Moreton reported 47 knots at 1330 hours on Saturday).

Resident photographer Craig was racing onboard Gauntlet on the outside course and managed to get heaps of great photos. These photos are now posted on the RQYS website here >>

With waterproof cameras/video cameras currently all the rage, a few sailors also filmed footage of their adventures...

GOA/PDL

Tokyo Trash Baby

AYS Raider

Congratulations to everyone who raced - we hear that everyone had a bit on. There were boats that broke masts, rudders, ripped sails, lost skippers overboard, heaps ran aground, chinese gybes, round ups, you name it and it happened. But most importantly, results were broken!!!

Results are on the QCYC website >>

Nice video of Goa/PDL...was that taken from another yacht or a powerboat?

And was it Corum that lost a crew member?

We were nearby by we couldnt tell if it was them

It was definitely Corum, i didnt know it was the skipper though! I think they recovered him pretty quickly because they shared the team prize with Dancing Lady and E11even.
