Queensland Beneteau Cup

The Queensland Beneteau Owners Group invites all French yachts to join them in the first race of their annual regatta known as the Beneteau Cup, to be held on the 30/31st October.

The French Yacht Challenge, is really a fun race, with both spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions, designed to attract the once a year racers to a weekend of fun food and good company, with a French flavour. It will be a passage race of about 18 miles sailed around southern Moreton Bay, and is designed to be not too challenging for the family and friends that usually crew the boats.

There will be a complimentary croissant and coffee for all participants at the pre-race meeting. (A full sailors breakfast is available for purchase at the RQYS for those who want it.) Finger food and wine will be provided at the post race presentation of trophies, and those who wish can join us for dinner at the RQYS Boardwalk Cafe. (Dinner is at personal cost.)

On Sunday, the Beneteau boats will sail two short windward/return races, and points will be awarded in addition to their points from the Saturday race to count towards the Beneteau Cup.

The Notice of Race is available on the RQYS website,

http://www.rqys.com.au/marine-sports/BENETEAU-CUP/10%20BENETEAU%20CUP-NOR.pdf

and the Sailing Instructions will be posted towards the end of September.

Entries close on Friday 15th October, but we would welcome expressions of interest, and further information is available from Jane Virtue (jane.virtue(at)bigpond.com).

Jessica Watson: Songs From Pink Lady

Ok. A documentary I get, and a book I can respect. But an album of songs???

Where does it end?

Next there will be Jessica Watson, what she felt like eating whilst at sea and maybe even Jessica Watson Moisturising Cream, so those dry nights at sea and the effects of salty air. Or what about Jessica Watson the Fishing Rod, the catch a bite anywhere in the world.

Is it just me, or does this seem like a money grab…

You can buy the CD from all good music stores (of course) – Sanity has it listed at $21.99

Jessica Watson at the age of 16 made history after sailing 23,000 nautical miles & spending 210 days at sea, to become the youngest person to sail solo and unassisted around the world. Jessica’s iPod and music were a key factor that aided her in moments of solitude and gave her inspiration to complete the journey. Sony Music will be releasing a compilation of Jessica’s 20 favourite songs from her journey.

The tunes on offer:

Powderfinger – Sail The Wildest Stretch
Delta Goodrem – In This Life
Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
Bob Sinclar Feat. Gary “Nesta” Pine – Love Generation
Kevin Rudolf Feat. Rick Ross – Welcome To The World
Justin Timberlake – What Goes Around…Comes Around
MGMT – Kids
Good Charlotte – I Don’t Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem)
Shannon Noll – Shine
Eskimo Joe – Black Fingernails, Red Wine
Evermore – Running
After The Fall – Desire
The Killers Smile Like You Mean It
Newton Faulkner – Dream Catch Me
Thirsty Merc – 20 Good Reasons
Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved
Missy Higgins – Steer
Train – Hey, Soul Sister
Kate Miller-Heidke – The Last Day On Earth
Youth Group – Forever Young

Geez… It’s tiring just thinking about it!!!

While Johnsee is sunning himself in the Whitsundays at Hamilton Island Race Week, I will be heading to the UK to attend the Mens Laser Standard World Championship.

This is a great opportunity and a chance to learn the new trends in managing and organising such a prestigious event.

At this stage I will be doing a mixture of things and won’t really have an idea until I get there.

But one thing I do know is that it’s going to be extremely exciting and a wealth of knowledge – with some sightseeing in there of course! I’m going to try my chance to get into Royal Thames Yacht Club!

Stay tuned!!!

The Laser World Championships have grown substantially since they were last held in the United Kingdom, in Falmouth in 1988 when there were 88 entries from 24 different countries and Glenn Bourke (AUS) won the first of his three back-to-back Laser world titles.

Hayling Island sees an entry of 160 men qualified to represent 51 different countries as well as an entry of 137 Juniors who will compete for the inaugural Laser Junior world title. So the waters off the renowned English club will have nearly 300 sailors competing on two different course areas. The Laser Junior World Championships is for sailors between the ages of 17 and 20.

After a preliminary practice race on Sunday 29th August, competition for the titles starts on Monday 30th August. The qualifying series which splits the total open fleet into gold, silver and bronze divisions runs Monday 30th to Thursday 2nd September with two races scheduled each day. The final series is scheduled to set two races a day from Friday with the title presentations on Sunday 5th September.
