BILLIONAIRE adventurer Sir Richard Branson and a crew of crack sailors dodged a vicious storm at the start of their bid to break the six-day Atlantic crossing record.
Sir Richard, accompanied by his two children and a crew including Olympic champion sailor Ben Ainslie, left New York aboard superyacht Virgin Money before dawn yesterday.
Starting from New York’s Ambrose lighthouse they aim to cross the finish line off Lizard Point, at the southwestern tip of Britain, within the current record of six days, 17 hours, 39 minutes and 52 seconds.
