With the Hamilton Island race week over the sailing world turns its eyes onto another stunning Island venue, Sardinia in Italy for the Rolex Maxi Worlds. This regatta held off Porto Cervo will be all about match ups and getting even from last year Rolex Maxi Worlds. In the STP 65 class you have the well sailed and last year winner of the Hobart Race Rosebud against the new Moneypenny. The big boats in maxi class sees the ever consistent Rambler versus the very fast Alfa Romeo 2. The hottest and newest boat in the fleet the new Alfa Romeo 3, this R/P 68 with sailors from the Erisson Volvo team gets to see how fast they are against the American Dan Meyers and his R/P 68 Numbers. All these six boats will all be vying for first in IRC in the maxi class. The titans of the regatta’s are the two J class yachts the John Williams owned s Ranger and Ronald de Waals Velsheda. With Ranger clearly being the fastest of the two over the last year, Velsheda come into this regatta with a new mast, boom and carbon rigging dropping almost 2 tons from aloft. Will this be enough to stay ahead of the ever consistent Ranger.
