ISAF’s new rules: make it easier for newcomers
February 29th, 2008

From time to time and at one point or another we have all thought the Blue Book was full of lots of womble jomble and stuff that didn’t really make sense.
It can take hours and days to translate a rule - just as we have been noticing in the LSD Forum >>
Understanding this, ISAF has released a simple document called Introductory Rules for Racing.
“The aim of the Introductory Rules for Racing is simple; make as it easy as possible for people to start racing. Consequently the Introductory Rules are as basic as possible, although they remain compatible with the principles and fundamental rules in the full ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).”
Rules When Boats Meet
3. When you and the other boat are on opposite tacks, if you are on port tack you must avoid the boat on starboard tack.
The Introductory Rules of Racing at this stage are “experimental”, and ISAF is looking for feedback.
So what do you think? Will these “rules” make it easier for a beginner to understand the basics, or will it confuse them even more?

Thanks to LSD reader Al for the heads up on this one.
