ok – if this went to the room, what would be used?, the case book or the rule book? i dont like the case book, because it is an INTERPRETAION of the rules, which could be wrong.

The case book is really the be all and end all of the rules – as Kokomo said it clears up the grey areas.

Essentially the case book is written by sailors who understand sailing where as the rule book has to have certain legal connotations in it and is therefore open to interpretation.

As for the camelback it would be a pretty stiff protest committee to rub them out for a minor infraction first time – most likely as suggested a warning would suffice.

It has given me some ideas…

And Maddy, no, they would not be penalised by the Race Committee, they would need to have been protested by a competitor.

You have to understand what the case book is. It is always released after the rule book. it clears up all the grey areas after the translations it is written released and signed off by ISAF which makes is like the BIBLE.

Read the rule (there is the grey area) then read the case book to clear it up. It says NO. pure and simple. no grey area. no loop hole.

Just becasue some one is in breach of a rule does not mean they have to be DSQ ed. it does not mean they even have to be punished!! haha.

The casebook shows how international juries have interpreted rules in the past. that interpretation is then regarded as how that rule should be interpreted in similar cases in the future. it is called a precedent. ie. carrying a water bottle on your person was a grey area the way it is written in the rrs but now that it has been interpreted by a jury it is very clear.

also, if thats the rule shouldnt it be applicable at all levels. And the rules should be followed directly

to me it just seems like theres too many loopholes.
