Winter is no time for resting

We are blessed in Gods country Queensland to have a climate that we can sail all year round, but the boats slowly get the covers put on them and fewer teams are out sailing and practicing.
This is a great time to make a jump on your competitors down south who are shacked up in the cold weather and can’t get out on the water.
Winter is a time to get out and perfect the basic skills in the light winds and get the base miles under your belt so when the season starts you are already firing.
Many sailors don’t spend enough time learning how to sail in a straight line and perfect this basic skill .Get a coach boat and a video and take some footage even if it is Mum, Dad or a mate. It’s important to see what you look like and from this you will learn a lot.
Winter is also a time to plan the new season of days training and racing and list all the days you can sail on a yearly planner.
Start to formulate a new training log with details of how many hours you sail, how many hours in the Gym, etc.
Most Olympic Sailors are spending between 70 to 100 hours per month of on water time, add up your monthly hours and see where you’re at??
Winter is a time to get all the boat maintenance sorted and replace any old blocks and ropes, give the bottom of the boat a good cut and polish and get the foils repainted.
Get the covers off, leave the pressures of work and family behind and get the wind in your hair.
