nice one matto, send the girls onto the front of the boat! scared of getting up there yourself? Of course girls can do it and if they had enough time to train i am sure they could compete strength wise, all be it they might look like super chicks. All you need is determination, time a common goal and commitment. Go girls!

In Sydney we campaigned a Davidson 34 successfully with a fully mixed crew (4 male & 4 female) and I found that what the girls lacked in muscle they made up for in ability to think laterally.

For the record:

Male: Skipper / Trimmer & Cook / Mainsheet / Mast
Female: Navigator / Trimmer / Foredeck / Pit

Do I think the girls can do it - yes they have proven it before

Can they win - no, the Volvo is a pure test of strength and stamina, and unfortunately for the girls they don't have either in enough quantities for long distance races

You left out the first all female crew. In 1987 Tracey Edwards put together the "Maiden" Campaign

I don't like the idea - all it does is turn the race into a gender war and gives the journos something to write about. Instead of a test of human endurance, it becomes man versus woman. Do we really need gimmicks like this? What point does it prove? What's the benefit?

It would be much better to have more balanced representation of both men and women on all of the boats, sailing together instead of against each other. There are plenty of women racing these boats already and being taken seriously because they are good at what they're doing - Adrienne, etc.

I honestly don't think women have the physical strength to compete competitively.

And at any rate... have you seen how little Volvo Ocean Racers can carry... there's NO WAY any female on this planet could pack so little!!!
