Loving the yachting lifestyle

Somewhere bewteen Southport and Pittwater

Somewhere between Southport and Pittwater…

As I have mentioned before, the hardest thing about loving the yachting lifestyle is the realisation that eventually I am going to have to venture home and return to the daily grind.

After the comments, text messages, phone calls and emails I received from friends I decided to go with the masses and climb aboard “Wild Joe” and assist with the delivery from Southport Yacht Club on the Gold Coast into Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on Pittwater north of Sydney.

It was an awesome delivery with us peaking the boat speed scale at just under 20 knots at about 0300 hours on Tuesday morning. And that was just with the delivery main and franctional chute up. I was in heaven…

I have my first crush now as well… I promised myself I would never let it happen… However I was overcome with the sheer enjoyment it brought me that I am now a statistic in the crazy mixed up world called love… I love canting keels

Please don’t judge me!!! You can’t knock it until you try it. This push button sailing business that the top yachts are involved in is not as easy as it sounds, but satifies many needs you never knew you had! “Oh, I feel some leeward heel! Nothing that a wee bit of keel canting can’t fix!”. And it’s also a great way to avoid being stuck ondsc00033.JPG a sandbar at Coffs Harbour for a few hours… Not that there’s anything to discuss about that!!!

After a couple of nights, a few beers and a complete domination by one crew member over another in backgammon we slowing, paitently, carefully, and again with touch of cantness, made our way into Pittwater with RPAYC our final desination.

Upon arriving in Sydney it was the standard pack up proceedure, however before engaging in the dreaded road trip to the airport there was a brief stop over at Balmoral where a brand new Nacra 4.5 was tested for durability, performance, and how fast a girl can be hurled around the forestay. I have the bruises on my arms to prove it! Nothing like a flash of cat action before calling it a day!

I eventually made it home at 0100 hours this morning (Wednesday) and it was at approximately 0400 hours that my Dad, with Mum in tow, left for the international airport to fly into Korea for the Laser Masters World Championships. Thus is the lifestyle of a sailing family!

It’s going to be a massive week of sailing for Johnsee and I with our school holiday program Sail & Play commencing again on Monday the 25th. Five days of adventurous sailing for kids aged between 7 and 12.

It’s also just days away from the launch of the new sailing e-magazine and the bigger site we have joined forces with.

Bear with me now… I need to have lie down…
