Mother Nature - a mother, a woman, a natural wonder. Storms - violent, devestating, destructive yet beautiful.

Do you see what I see???

Yes, my mother can get quite angry as well.

As sailors we have to respect mother nature.

I have been through a number of severe storms, I suspect I was also in the one OG mentioned in Sydney in 1995. There have also been plenty of thunderstorms and the like at sea, I remember being in awe of one particular electrical storm whilst at anchor (eating a roast dinner) in Jervis Bay returning from the 1984 Sydney-Hobart, those sorts of things stay with you both for the raw power and sheer majesty.
Some of my other wild weather memories include the wave that took the wind instruments off the top the mast on a seismic research vessel, a fog on Chesapeake Bay that reduced visibility to less than two feet a hail storm in Sydney dropping ice the size of cricket balls, a sudden wind change in Hobart that capsized a whole fleet and a rain squall in the Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand, that again reduced visibility so much that the bow of the ship disappeared for twenty minutes - but for me nothing beats going through the eye of a cyclone off North Queensland in 1990, it is one experience that I really treasure but hope that I never have to repeat.

Yes OG not only do we respect mother nature we embrace her, because within those subtle nuances and sadistic twists the beauty is unmistakeable.
