Skype Cyber Sail

I browse, read and comment on many other sailing websites such as Tillerman’s Propercourse, Litoralis, EVK4, however when I visited another one of my regulars I noticed he was offering a chance for all us sailing bloggers to actually talk… mic to mic!

Ant Clay from SoulSailor has created a Skypecast. Now I’m not “down” with the latests of Skype, however I do use this awesome program to chat with my family and friends in Australia and around the world. Why is it so fantastic? It’s totally free if you chat between computers over the internet. All you need is a microphone.

So I thought I would meet this sailor online in his Skypecast and actually have a chance of interacting with a fellow sailor whom just so happens to be on the other side of the world. I’m in Brisbane Australia, and he is in the United Kingdom.

After some quick instructions over the text chat feature, we were soon talking live. It was 11pm him time, and 8am mine. I had just dragged my sorry arse out of bed, still in my PJ’s, turned on my mic and began a random chat with someone I had never met. But you know what made the converstion easy? We are both extremely passionate about sailing.

No matter where you are from or what your day job entails, if you love sailing the interaction between those who love the sport as much as you has a natural flowing progression.

So I am supporting Ant in his aim to get an international Skypecast happening. All sailing bloggers who regulary check each others sites. Let’s all meet in cyber world and break down the barrier in which our screens create.
