Laser Sailor Yachtsman of the Year

At the annual Senior Presentation of Trophies at Royal Queensland Yacht Sqauadron on Friday night (2nd July), a Laser sailor took home to most prestige award on offer – The 2005/2006 RQYS Yachtsman of the Year.

Brendan Casey was named Yachtsman of the Year after his awesome display of talent and skill over the past twelve months of competition, all whilst representing Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.

Over the 12 month period, Casey has raced against some 1100 other competitors from every corner of the globe. From twelve regattas ten of those placings were in the top ten. Four of these were outright dominations where he took home the gold from his rivals.

Casey is an asset to RQYS and whenever he has a spare moment, he lends a helping hand to the young up-and-coming Laser sailors at the club.

As the current Australian Champion after winning the event at his home club in early January, Casey has been travelling the world racing at every regatta imaginable for his quest to be selected for the Australian Olympic Team for the Beijing Games.

“This is by far the best trophy I have ever won!” said Casey on the evening. The throphy was hand crafted by Hardy’s Jewellers whom are a proud sponsor of RQYS.  Casey also too home a watch valued at $5,000.
