Who REALLY has right of way??

This is one of those all time classic photos – a moment captured in time with an endless array of questions surrounding its outcome.

The International Regulations for Avoiding Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) state that… Um… They state that commercial… Hmmm, they say that when you are sailing… Ok, who really knows what the hell they are stating, because anyone who can understand the jargon embedded in their theories deserves a medal.

It’s an illusion – are they going to collide? Or is the skiff passing aft of the ferry? Johnsee assumes this is the case, however I am a little more adventurous and reckon they are bang on the mark for a front page story of the Sydney Morning Herald – “Ferry Slams Skiff – COLREGS Misunderstood – Maritime Safety to Blame”.
